The Mimico Station Community Organization (MSCO) held its first meeting in April 2004 out of concern for the future of the Mimico Station in its community. Its membership is comprised of local residents who are actively involved in several different community groups in South Etobicoke. Our mission statement is as follows: “We are a group of Etobicoke residents, who are committed to saving the Mimico Train Station from demolition and returning it to its original beauty. We want to ensure it not only remains an important part of Etobicoke's heritage, but also serves as a place to which the community has access. We are also committed to establishing a long-term plan for sustainability that will make the Station an exciting, vibrant and well-visited destination in South Etobicoke.” Mimico Station CO. 2004 |
Objectives of the MSCO
· Strengthen the sense of community in South Etobicoke by restoring a Canadian heritage building that stands as a reminder of the proud railway history of the area. · Create a vibrant tourist attraction to help revitalize an area of the City of Toronto whose economy is in decline. · Organize themed events to locally promote the beauty of the restored Mimico Station. · Create an interactive educational center for students to learn of the significance of the railway in Canadian history. · Ensure the Mimico Station remains a public building with unrestricted access, as it was designed in 1915. |
