Welcome to the new website of the Mimico Station! We are excited to be launching this updated site as we enter into the second phase of the station’s journey to its new location and major restoration.
In November 2004, the Mimico Station Community Organization was declared the winning proponent of the Request for Proposal issued by the City of Toronto for Relocation, Restoration and Adaptive Reuse of the Mimico Railway Station. And so, the restoration of Mimico’s beloved station began. In May 2005, the Station was re-located to property owned by the City of Toronto’s Works department as a temporary staging place while the Station was cosmetically improved, the details of the 20-year licence agreement were hammered out, a precise site was selected and building permits were negotiated. At the same time, the necessary reports were created for Toronto Preservation Services.
In the November 2007, we moved the Station to its permanent location in Coronation Park and work began on its foundation. In February 2008, the Station was finally set down and as spring arrives, the restoration work on both the interior and exterior of the building will start to be completed.
From the beginning, much of the work was completed thanks to the generosity of businesses who kindly provided in-kind donations. Many local businesses have also contributed to our fundraisers. Please visit our sponsors page!
All volunteers are welcome. We hope you will join us!
